2018 Pitcher of the Year semifinalists announced
The list has been whittled down to the top 20 hurlers in the country

LUBBOCK, Texas -- Some of the top arms in the country have their teams surging toward the postseason as the regular-season campaign enters the final week. Those same arms are the ones leading the list of semifinalists for the Pitcher of the Year Award, presented by the College Baseball Foundation.

The award, sponsored by Diamond, will be presented later this summer by the CBF.

No. 1 Florida has two of its top pitchers on the list in starters Brady Singer and closer Michael Byrne. Singer, a junior right-hander, has the Gators well on the path toward repeating as national champions. He has compiled 10 wins and a 2.33 ERA while striking out 86. Byrne, a junior right-hander, has racked up 12 saves and 42 strikeouts to go with a 1.38 ERA.

Leading the list of semifinalists in wins is Oregon State senior left-hander Luke Heimlich, who is 12-1 with a 2.94 ERA and 115 strikeouts in 88.2 innings for the No. 2 Beavers.

The only other semifinalist with double-digit wins is Northeastern ace Sean Mellen. The sophomore left-hander is 10-1 with a 1.60 ERA and 75 strikeouts in 73.1 innings.

In terms of relievers, Stetson's Brooks Wilson is pacing the field. The senior has tallied an impressive 19 saves to go with a 5-0 record and 1.76 ERA with 64 strikeouts.

Jack Little, a sophomore right-hander from Stanford, has 13 saves on the season to go with a 0.83 ERA. Seth Kinker from Ohio State has a 6-1 record, 12 saves and a 1.22 ERA while Joe O'Donnell from North Carolina State and Nolan Hoffman from Texas A&M have 10 saves each.

Logan Gilbert, a junior right-hander from Stetson, leads the group of semifinalists with 134 strikeouts, followed closely by Elon sophomore Kyle Brnovich with 132 and Auburn right-hander Casey Mize, the projected No. 1 overall pick in the June MLB draft, with 124.
